We know it can be a difficult decision whether to attend a treatment program. It can be challenging to accept help and there are probably things that you do not want to or are afraid to change. You do not have to be ready to give up your eating disorder to come to the EDCC. The therapists and staff here pride ourselves on working with you to help you determine what you want for your life and recovery. Not all eating disorders are the same and we believe each person must find their own way of being in the world. We consider it our goal to help motivate you to move towards the things you want for your future.
We know that some people already know what they want and just need support in helping them to get there. Other people may need help distinguishing their own preferences and identity from the expectations of others. In groups and individual sessions we help you to figure out who you are and to take steps to live that out in your daily life.
One of the greatest benefits to the EDCC is that you get to recover in your own environment. While residential programs can be helpful for those who feel it is essential to separate themselves from the challenging things in their daily lives, eventually they have to reincorporate into that environment. At the EDCC we help you deal with everyday pressures as they are happening. In a day treatment setting you are able to use the structure of the program some of the time and yet you also have the opportunity to practice your new skills in your day-to-day life. We have groups specifically designed to help people define intentions for their time spent outside of the program and follow-up groups to discuss successes and set-backs. Peers in the program tend to become very close as everyone encourages each other to face fears and reach new heights. Clients consistently report that they develop strong and lasting relationships with peers at the EDCC and that they appreciate having friends help them and encourage them to be their best selves.
It can be difficult to choose a treatment program from a website or a marketing packet. We encourage you to call and/or come by for a visit, meet the staff and find out if EDCC is what you have been looking for. We are also happy to arrange for you to talk with former clients, family members and professionals who refer to our programs. These people can answer other questions you have and may be able to help you make a decision that is right for you.
We want to help and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Costin M.A. M.Ed, M.F.T.
